Whilst osmolality measurement is widely adopted for testing the media and buffers used in bioprocessing, this webinar covers other emerging applications where osmolality is used both as a process parameter that can be manipulated to increase productivity and as a predictor for titer and glucose consumption among other things. These applications add huge value both in mAb biologics and in cell and gene therapy development.
Presented by:
- Professor Micheal Butler – NIBRT
Michael Butler is a Principal Investigator in Cell Technology at the National Institute of Bioprocessing Research & Training (NIBRT), Adjunct Full Professor in University College Dublin as well as and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the University of Manitoba, Canada. In 2008, he was named Distinguished Professor and in 2010 became Scientific Director of MabNet, an NSERC-funded national network focused on platform processes for monoclonal antibody production. He was appointed as Chief Scientific Officer and Principal Investigator in NIBRT in 2016. His other appointments have included Associate Dean of Scientific Research at Manitoba and Visiting Scientist at MIT (USA), Animal Virus Research Institute (Pirbright, UK), and the Universities of Oxford and Rio de Janeiro.
- Professor Alois Jungbaur – BOKU
Professor Alois Jungbauer received his PhD in Food Technology and Biotechnology from BOKU and serves there as a professor at the Department of Biotechnology. He teaches Protein Technology, Downstream Processing, and Bioprocess Engineering and is study director of the Ph.D. program Bioprocess Engineering. He also acts as area head of Bioprocessing Engineering and Deputy Director of Research in the Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology. He is currently working in the field of bioprocess engineering of proteins, plasmids, and viruses. He has published 340 papers on recombinant protein production, bioseparation, and advanced materials for bioprocess engineering, 17 patents, and 12 book contributions, and recently a monograph entitled “Protein Chromatography, Process Development and Scale Up”. He is the executive editor of the Biotechnology Journal. He acts also as the vice president of research of the European Society of Biochemical Engineering Science.
- Kendal Studd, Scientific Applications Specialist – Advanced Instruments
Kendal specializes in advancing novel osmolality applications within the biopharma industry. She is an experienced scientist with a demonstrated history of working in the biotechnology industry alongside sterilising grade filters and pharmaceuticals. She graduated from the University of Portsmouth with Distinction in a research Masters’s degree looking at DNA extraction and amplification via PCR.
